Electrical Engineer (Analog & Firmware Designer)

The Electrical Engineer (Analog & Firmware Designer) is responsible for all phases of hardware design including technical analysis of product requirements, recommendation of design alternatives, functional specifications, schematic design, PCB layout, hardware debug, hardware verification testing and release to manufacturing. Also assists other engineers/technicians as well as other departments, including production, with tasks as products progress from concept to market.  The Electrical Engineer (Analog & Firmware Designer) will also be required to write and edit some firmware/software.


  • Designs necessary circuit boards, fitting various components within the constraints dictated by mechanical space, customer requirements and national and international standards.
  • Adheres to specific criteria put fourth by certification standards such as UL, ATEX, IECEX, etc.
  • Analyzes the circuit under design to determine the most efficient and cost effective outline, layout, spacing, via and pad placement and size for the project.
  • Ability to program firmware to work with designed circuitry.
  • Ability to develop software for testing and documentation automation.
  • Understanding of analog and digital circuits and hardware.
  • Determines the correct available component packages to fulfill the design requirements.
  • Prepares and creates all necessary documentation for the production of a printed circuit board, including all sizes, specifications and tolerances required for PCB manufacturers.
  • Prepares and creates all necessary documentation needed to achieve a high quality constantly producible product at any one of the P+F production facilities.
  • Maintains and controls all documentation used to produce running products.
  • Adheres to applicable standards for meeting design specifications.
  • Maintains detailed records and prepares communications and reports as needed.
  • Interacts professionally on a regular basis with staff, vendors and the general public.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the use of the intranet and internet.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret reports and business correspondence for a diverse audience.
  • Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
  • High degree of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high attention to detail and good follow-up skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive and solution focused.
  • Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with public and staff in a personable and professional manner.
  • Maintains a high level of energy and a consistent positive attitude.
  • Capability to effectively communicate and work with local and international colleagues within all levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of digital and analog circuit designs.
  • Prefer 5+ years experience with analog design experience.
